Axis cover art

MAKE are a Sludge/Drone/Doom/Psych/Post-Metal Band from Chapel Hill, USA

The members are:

Scott Endres (guitar, vocals)
Spencer Lee (bass, vocals)
Matt Stevenson (drums)

MAKE are firm favourites of this blog and have been featured a few times. We have reviewed their brilliant debut album - Trephine - earlier this year and I recently interviewed them as well.

So when these guys release new music it's always great news for ourselves. As MAKE show the world what    they are doing now.

Well the guys are a back with a stunning EP entitled - Axis - A 3 song and 30 minute blast of pure MAKE magic and brilliance.

Axis starts off with the stunning 17 minute epic title track. Axis takes time in building up it's atmosphere by blending Ambient based Post-Rock with hints of old style MAKE riffage. You know something angry is on it's way, it's just a matter of time before MAKE unleash the fury and all hell breaks loose.

But before that happens just sit back and listen to the dreamy Post-Rock vibes they are playing before the real MAKE come to join the party around the 10:30 minute mark. That is when the Sludge/Post-Metal monster finally awakes to claim your soul. From then on in the EP stays loud and angry. There is no turning back as MAKE have you in their grasp.

Up next is the 6:35 minute wonder of Chimera. A song like it's title is furious beast waiting to be unleashed. And this track is unleashed from the word go. This is probably the heaviest track I have heard MAKE do. As they blend Black Metal based vocals to the mix. Like the mythical beast it's a 3 headed attack on the senses. Sludge, Doom and Black Metal to rattle the most jaded of Sludge/Post-Metal fans.

Last by no means least is the excellent -The Sleep Of Reason Produces Monsters - A 6:46 minute track that blends old-style MAKE riffs with their new based Ambient Drone Sludge Rock which makes for a hard hitting and powerful listen. The last few minutes is a haunting blend of Post-Rock and Ambient Style sounds mixed with a beautiful piano playing in the background.

MAKE have said this release is to show the world what to expect on their new album. Well I for one can't fucking wait. Their new sound is the perfect blend of Loud, Angry, Heavy, Atmospheric mixed with the delicate and beautiful Post-Rock, Ambient Based sound.

MAKE have delivered another astonishing release that you all need to check out right now. It's wonderfully produced and one that shows MAKE's talents to perfection.

MAKE are now my favourite Sludge/Doom/Drone/Post-Metal bands. Give it time and they will be yours too.

Headover to BandCamp and buy this wonderful release right now. You won't be sorry.

Axis is quite simply put - Brilliant and Highly Recommended.
